Technically unix was designed much before the advent of c.
Most of Unix coding was done in assembly language. but with the increase in s/w size developers found it really tough to manage.
so they tried to make use of some high level language. At that time only "Basics" was popular.
Due to which Dennis was given the task to customize it according to project's usage.
It gave the name "New basics" to the language which later became "C". And then Further development of UNIX was done in "C". Technically "Unix" and "C" both are made in each other. :)
